Data Center Policy Plan

A stronger Governor’s Office is necessary to prevent Nevadans from being taken advantage of by large corporations constructing new data centers. Outsized incentives have created an artificial economic advantage for companies building data centers in Nevada while failing to protect consumers and residents from negative impacts to water and energy costs.

The State of Nevada must take a leadership role in managing the regional impact of data centers, something that both Governor Lombardo and Attorney General Ford have failed to do. Alexis Hill is the only candidate for Governor who is willing to take on these corporations and make them pay their fair share.

  • Executive Order: Stop all new tax abatements for data center construction. Nevadans have already spent $400 million in taxpayer funds to incentivize an industry that does not need handouts.
  • Executive Order: Review the impact of existing data center operations on water use and energy prices.
  • 1st Session: Establish a state permitting process to address regional concerns (which does not exempt developers from local permitting requirements) for data center construction.
  • 1st Session: Prohibit evaporative cooling systems for data center construction.
  • 1st Session: Establish a new electric rate class for data centers to insulate residential and commercial customers from this increasing demand.
  • 1st Session: Require data centers to meet the highest established renewable portfolio standard (RPS) at the time of construction.
