Plan to Protect Democracy, Safeguard Voting Rights, and Defend Elections
There is no greater responsibility in our democracy than protecting the power of people to vote. Tragically, Republicans and Trump seek to destroy that foundational principle of our representative government. I am the only candidate for Governor who has certified and directly overseen county election operations and redistricting, and I know what it will take to guarantee equal representation and access. As Governor, I will continue to fight for all Nevadans to be fairly represented and exercise their right to vote.
- Executive Order: Fix the Department of Motor Vehicle’s (DMV) registration process so that voters can easily choose their preferred party.
- Executive Order: Defend access to voting and prevent intimidation. Prohibit law enforcement and National Guard surveillance or presence at voting locations.
- 1st Session: Enshrine protection of mail-in ballots in the Nevada Constitution by supporting the legislature’s initiative to pursue a constitutional amendment and leading statewide efforts to pass the subsequent ballot initiative.
- 1st Session: If the voter ID initiative on the ballot this fall passes, work with the DMV to ensure they have the technology to share ID data with each county’s Registrar of Voters office so anyone who may not have access to in-person identification is still able to vote.
- 1st Session: Support our counties’ Registrar of Voters offices in their mandate to run free and fair elections, including obtaining additional staff and building space to report results out more quickly.
- 1st Session: Require operational audits of all 17 counties every five years to ensure that they are following state law and that they have the resources they need.
- 1st Session: Hold county commissioners who do not follow the law and certify elections accountable by establishing a process to remove them from office.
- 1st Session: Ensure that people who are false electors or claim to be electors who haven’t been elected can face a felony.
- 1st Session: Support access to primaries for all registered voters by allowing non-partisan voters to participate in partisan primaries without changing their voter registration status.
- 1st Session: Support improved access to polls for those who want or need to vote in person, including a state holiday for general elections, free transit on election days, and supplemental paratransit services to polling places.
